Cam Calkoen on the Concept of ‘Too Hard’
Dear Awesome People in The Icehouse Network,
A few years ago I was in Japan and learnt ‘kintsukuroi’ - what I consider a craft of awesome transformation.
Kintsukuroi comes as a result of something that has been broken, that when we see the likes of a broken bowl, broken cup, broken heirloom we have some choices;
We can throw it out and lose all the history, expertise and memories that it held.
We can glue it back together with PVA but look at it knowing that it’s not as perfect as it once was.
Or we can stick it back together with liquid gold (this is kintsukuroi), making it stronger, more valuable, more awesome than it ever was to start with.
Now we’re not broken but we do get to choose how we put things together for our people, to make them stronger, more valuable and believing that when they dream big they really do achieve more!
Some people have the perspective that things are just too hard - if so, check this out…
Turning up at The Icehouse has hopefully led to moments that changed our perspective, that further inspired us to think who we’re going to be; was it to win in new environments, was it to become the biggest, was it to run a marathon, was it to look for more awesomeness in everyday things… whatever it was now is an awesome time to assess it, to measure it, to further embrace it, and share it.
Enjoy your awesomeness,
Cam
