An intro to Team Management Profiles
How to create a productive team grounded in openness, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Understanding work preferences is a critical component in developing individual, team and organisational performance.
The Team Management Profiles (TMP) encourages ownership and action and is solutions-oriented. When individual work preferences and team roles are identified, high performance issues become clear. It can also be used as a group tool for goal-setting, planning and review. It offers a common language and a basis for understanding working styles, overcoming barriers and performing more effectively leading to immediate results and providing a framework for the future.
How does it work?
Based on individual responses to an online profile questionnaire, the personal Team Management Profile provides constructive, work-based information outlining an individuals’ work preferences and the strengths that an individual brings to a team.
Work preferences are explored in terms of:
- How an individual prefers to relate to others
- How an individual gathers and uses information
- How an individual makes decisions
- How an individual organises themselves and others.
The personal Team Management Profile highlights an individual’s major and related areas of work preferences, including information focused on:
- Individual and leadership strengths
- Decision-making
- Interpersonal skills
- Team-building
In addition, Areas for Self-Assessment and Key Points of Note enable an individual to develop focused action-plans and improve performance. Information on Linking helps team members understand how best to communicate with another. This is essential information for developing individuals and teams.
Norm Data is included for comparison of individual work preferences with those of managers worldwide.
What is the Team Management Profile process?
Self-report questionnaire: Participants complete a simple online questionnaire taking about 15 minutes to complete – the Icehouse team will manage this process.
Facilitated debrief: The team will participate in a debrief with an accredited Icehouse facilitator. This takes about 2 hours. It can be a standalone process, or you can include this as part of a team or business-wide planning, conference or other development activity. Although best done face to face, we can also offer a slightly shorter virtual debrief where all participants interact via Zoom.
This can include:
- Overview of the tool
- Practical activities to demonstrate preferences
- How you can use it to improve communication and team interaction
- Review and interpret individual reports and peer sharing
- View of team(s) around the wheel - strengths and improvement opportunities
- Individual and team development action planning
Each participant will receive:
- Their personal profile with explanation of their preferences and work-place behaviour
- Personal discovery workbook to explore preferences further and create a learning log

For the team you will see:
- The combination of the individual profiles in the team
- How the team members are distributed around the wheel and how their preferences interact
- Team balance – a team view of strengths and gaps and areas for improvement
